Ski season gets off to a strong start with early snow

Resorts across the Alps and North America have received a decent dump of early snow, getting the season off to a promising start.

With temperatures remaining low, conditions are favourable for lasting snow and a promising season, said ski specialist agency Ski Solutions.

Several European resorts, including Val d’Isere in France and Livigno in Italy are already open. A further eight centimetres of snow is predicted for the French resort in the next seven days.

Les Deux Alpes, a high-altitude resort in France, is forecast to receive 21cm of fresh snow within the next week. In Switzerland, Zermatt is also expecting more snow in the next seven days.

North America has also seen a strong start to the season, particularly the Rockies and western Canada. The Canadian resort of Whistler Blackcomb is forecast to receive 67cm of snow over the next week, while Vail in Colorado, US, is set for 21cm.

Ski Solutions Managing Director Ian McIlrath said: “With many resorts already open or about to open, now is a prime time to book in a winter holiday to get those preferred dates and resorts and avoid the peak season crowd, as well as benefit from the fresh snow.

“With good snowfall everywhere, including the lower altitude slopes, there’s great coverage for beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers alike.

“These strong conditions so early in the season provide confidence in the months ahead and afford skiers the chance to plan, book, and enjoy a trip this season.”
